I somewhat agree with your assessment of Sandinista! The problem with that album, for me, is that The Clash intended it to be this sprawling epic - then ran out of ideas about 3/4th of the way through it, filling in the gaps with dub reworkings and studio gimmicks (i.e., 'Mensforth Hill') that were mostly disposable.
